The walls should not have any cracks or any chips. It would be advisable that the apartment gets a new coat of paint before you move in. Most landlords will deduct your deposit for such when you leave the place, so if you are going to pay for it, then you should make sure it is done for you. Plus paint will give the apartment a new look.
Make sure that all the entries can lock adequately without issues. The door should have a deadbolt for your safety. There shouldn’t be any openings or cracks in the door.
If the apartment has tiled floors, then all of them should be clean and in perfect conditions. Cracks on the floor can cause you to lose your deposit at the end of your lease.
Rodents and Pests
These can be a nightmare for you if you are not careful. Look out for animal droppings around the apartment. The kitchen is mostly the centre of attraction for most of the rodents or pests. Look out for insect eggs or brown pellets which could be the rodents waste.
There should be a smoke detector in the apartment; a fire extinguisher should also be available for you in case of any eventualities. These things could save your life.
Most of the building agents will keep your deposit without blinking if they find that the apartment has any mishaps. Read your lease agreement carefully before you sign it. Have the apartment repaired before you move in, and you will honestly feel like you are at home.
